Spain is launching a”universal income” program to help their citizens. The list of restrictions on who can get this is pretty long: you have to be between this and that age, paid into social secuirty for at least a year, and make less than a certain amount per month.
I don’t get why that’s caled “universal income”. That’s looks to me like a normal aid program, like they exist all over Europe. Is this just because the name sounds better? Is accepting aid when one is in a bad situation such a stigma that people don’t apply for it?
There are not enough details yet, if this get’s paid out without the need to file an application, I can see this making a difference. Otherwise, this is just a marketing gag, at least in terms of naming it.
